Check the ZSEM Summer School Program website for program dates. Select Term 1, Term 2, or Term 3, OR a combination of 2 or 3 terms for a 2, 4, or 6-week program.
Do not make travel arrangements until you have been officially accepted by ZSEM and they have shared key dates with you.
NOTE: Students may participate in study abroad anytime after freshman year (or completing 24 college credits post completion of high school). Students may apply to a program during freshman year but must have completed freshman year in good standing to participate in the program.

Originally a medieval fortress town overlooking the Sava River, Zagreb is rich with history. The city itself is divided into three parts: Upper Town, Lower Town, and New Zagreb. Upper town is defined by the presidential palace, St. Mark’s Church, the Croatian parliament, and numerous museums and galleries. Lower town is where Zagreb’s shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, and parks are located while New Zagreb mainly contains the city’s high-rise buildings.
Today Zagreb is the country’s main hub for art, culture, sports, and academics. The city has more museums per square foot than any other city in the world. Museum options range from an Archaeological Museum to a Museum of Illusions. Make sure to stop in the most popular museum, the Museum of Broken Relationships. In addition to exploring Croatian history through museums, try out the local cuisine at Zagreb’s most famous open-air farmers’ market, the Dolac Market.
The Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM) campus is situated in a quiet, comfortable neighborhood in Northeast Zagreb and is well-connected to the rest of the city through the public transport system. It is a mixture of a lively, urban environment with a calm, suburban atmosphere. ZŠEM is among the top 5% of the best business schools and universities in the world. As part of that, ZŠEM boasts a 94% post-graduation employment rate. The summer program offers a variety of courses taught in English. Students from all over the world participate in the program.

Academics
Zagreb School of Economics & Management
During ZSEM’s summer program, you will select one course per term, in addition to the Croatian studies course. You will need to select which term or terms you will participate at the time you submit your UMD application: Term 1, Term 2, or Term 3. For example, you could participate in Term 2 & 3 only.
Depending on how many terms you select, the program will be 2 , 4, or 6 week program. All courses are taught in English and offer a variety of educational field trips.
ZSEM uses ECTS (European Credit Transfer Credits) in which 1 ECTS credit is equal to 0.5 UMD credit. Understand how grades and credits abroad will be converted at UMD by viewing ZSEM Grade & Credit Equivalents. The Croatian Studies course is 2 ECTS (1 UMD) credits, while all other courses are 5 ECTS (2.5 UMD) credits.

If you do not see a cost estimate for the term you intend to go abroad, the cost has not yet been determined. Please note cost estimates and fees may change depending on international economic factors. UMD Study Abroad delays the posting of final fees until enrollments, inflation, and exchange rates are determined in order to provide the most accurate pricing. We strive to post final fees by October 1 for Spring programs, March 1 for May/Summer programs, and May 1 for Fall and Academic year programs.

Travel Documents
- You are required to have a passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a passport or your passport will expire within 6 months after you will return from abroad, apply for a passport as soon as possible. It can take 2+ months to receive your passport after applying. You can apply for a new passport on-campus at the UMD Passport Acceptance Facility.
- Roundtrip travel should only be purchased after official acceptance is issued by ZSEM

A $50 non-refundable application fee will be billed to your One Stop account upon submission of an application.
After you apply
- After approximately 20 minutes, you will see checklist items for you to complete.
- All application checklist items need to be submitted by the application deadline which is noted near the top of the page.
- Your UMD Program Contact will review your application materials.
- You must complete the Confirmation of Participation form to confirm your participation.
- Once we receive your confirmation, your UMD account will be billed a confirmation deposit.
If you decide you cannot participate, you must log in to the online application system and submit the "Cancellation Request form."
