Grace is a junior at UMD majoring in Healthcare Management. She spent the Spring 2019 semester in Madrid, Spain at the University of Carlos III Madrid. In her 5 months in Europe, she visited many countries including Portugal, Italy, England, and the Czech Republic. Spending time as a student abroad gave her new perspective on history, the world, and the many ways that people are the same and different, no matter where you may be. It is an opportunity that she would never trade for anything. As a peer advisor, she would like to lend her knowledge to other prospective study abroad students and encourage them to have their own unforgettable experiences abroad. Outside of the International Programs & Services office, Grace works at Glensheen Mansion and likes to cook.
Most memorable view
The sunset at Cabo da Roca, the most western point in Europe, in Portugal. Looking over the Atlantic Ocean and knowing that the historical Old World ended right where I was standing was an incredible moment of perspective. That combined with an astounding sunset put it over the top.
What makes you happy

What gets you out of bed in the morning

Best advice to a future study abroad student
Don’t be too set in your ways. Go with an open mind. Don’t be surprised when things do not go according to plan, in both good ways and bad ways. Say “yes” to any opportunity you get and don’t be afraid to do things on your own.
