*UW Fall semester does not end until the mid January. However, accommodations will be made for fall only study abroad students to depart around the 3rd week of December.
Do not make travel arrangements until you have been officially accepted to the program by the host university and they have shared arrival/orientation dates and accomodation move-in dates.

Spend an exciting semester or academic year living and taking courses at the University of Worcester (UW). The city of Worcester (pronounced wu·str) is beautifully situated on the banks of the River Severn near the picturesque Malvern Hills. The city is built around a magnificent 11th-century cathedral and was a key battleground in the English Civil War. Centrally located in the heart of England, Worcester is a 2-hour train ride to London. With a population similar to the size of Duluth, Worcester blends the ancient heritage of a quaint English town with all the characteristics of a big city.
Established in 1946, the University of Worcester has built a reputation for world-class teaching and practical, purposeful research. UW is a vibrant, forward-looking university, well known for the quality of their degrees. UW delivers degree programs to around 11,000 students. UW has undergone significant change and growth over the last few years by expanding into new subject areas, more than doubling student numbers and investing substantially in staff and new facilities.
Academics
University of Worcester
Classes (called modules) at UW are worth 15 or 30 UW credits each, and students will enroll in 60 UW credits per semester.
Modules available to visiting study abroad students are listed on the UW Study Abroad web page under the “Study Abroad” banner and "Courses" section.
*Students interested in Fall semester only should note that official UW transcripts will not be issued until July or August the following year. This will significantly delay fall grade posting.
Degree programs at UW last 3 years and modules are classified as follows:
- Level 1 modules ≈ UMD freshman/sophomore level
- Level 2 modules ≈ UMD sophomore/junior level
- Level 3 modules ≈ UMD junior/senior level
UW modules typically meet once a week for an extended period of time. The UW emphasizes an independent approach to learning in a supportive environment. Your time may be considerably less structured than what you are used to at UMD, so you'll need to take ownership of your learning experience through independent reading and self-study. Grades can heavily be determined by final exams, papers, or projects

Please note cost estimates and fees may change depending on international economic factors. UMD Study Abroad delays the posting of final fees until enrollments, inflation, and exchange rates are determined in order to provide the most accurate pricing. We strive to post final fees by October 1 for Spring programs, March 1 for May/Summer programs, and May 1 for Fall and Academic year programs.

Housing Options
Live in modern student housing at the University of Worcester Halls of Residence. Choose from accommodation on the St. John’s Campus or City Campus.
- The St John’s Campus is within easy walking distance (no more than 20 minutes) of the City of Worcester
- The City Campus is right at the heart of historic Worcester
UW Accommodation options suit every budget and need, from the 'Traditional Hall' to the 'En-suite Extra' which includes:
- Your own bathroom
- A free gym membership
You will be able to apply for your accommodation after being officially accepted by UW.
Off-campus accommodation is also available and UW Accommodation provides some support for students who select this option.
Travel Documents
Travel Documents
- You are required to have a passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a passport or your passport will expire within 6 months after you will return from abroad, apply for a passport as soon as possible. It can take 2+ months to receive your passport after applying. You can apply for a new passport on-campus at the UMD Passport Acceptance Facility.
- Visa guidance will be given by our office as applicable
- Roundtrip airfare should only be purchased after you have been officially accepted by the University of Worcester and know all relevant dates
The UK Student Visa guidance document can assist you with the visa application process. Study abroad staff will keep this document as up to date as possible, however, you should always check the U.K. Visas & Immigration website for the most up to date information. You will receive more detailed information and advisement once you are confirmed in this program.

Before you click on the "Start my application" button below, make sure you know how to identify the correct program by searching for the:

A $50 non-refundable application fee will be billed to your One Stop account upon submission of an application.
After you apply
- After approximately 20 minutes, you will see checklist items for you to complete.
- It is recommended that you complete the checklist items within a month of applying, as applicable. Pre-departure Orientation details will be sent closer to the event date (usually April for fall/summer applicants and November for spring/winter break applicants).
- Your UMD Program Contact will review your application materials.
- You must complete the Confirmation of Participation form to confirm your participation.
- Once we receive your confirmation, your UMD account will be billed a confirmation deposit.
If you decide you cannot participate, you must log in to the online application system and submit the "Cancellation Request form."
