Program Overview

  • Population of Växjö: 80,000
  • Distance to Stockholm: 284 miles
  • Distance to Copenhagen: 176 miles

Växjö is the capital of Småland’s southern county, Kronoberg. Dubbed Europe’s greenest city, it offers a model in sustainability for the world to follow. With lakes and forests conducive to the city’s green image, it is hard not to feel a wonderful connection to nature all while enjoying the amenities that a city offers. Växjö is a cultural and musical destination that few communities similar in size exhibit, with museums, theaters, cathedrals, concert halls, and art galleries. One of the most notable sites in the city is the Domkyrkan Cathedral with its double towers. The Kronoberg castle ruins are just outside the city for exploration, too. Another favorite site is Växjö Lake, close to campus and the town center.

Linnaeus University became one of Sweden’s newest universities when Växjö University and Kalmar University merged in 2010. This new university has a total enrollment of 42,000 (15,600 full-time students) between the two campuses. The university is “glocal” (global + local) with many courses being developed with regional partners while utilizing global networks. As a modern international university, Linnaeus University’s vision is to be an attractive international learning environment promoting curiosity, creativity, companionship, and utility. View a video about student life or take a look at their International Student Guide.

Linnaeus University is AACSB accredited.

UMD works with the Linnaeus University International Office to offer this program.
